Our Commitment

CentralOregonWeather is committed to making our website accessible to as many people as possible, including those with disabilities. We aim to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA.

What We've Done

Used semantic HTML elements throughout the site
Provided text alternatives for non-text content where possible
Ensured pages work at up to 400% zoom
Avoided content that flashes or strobes
Kept language simple and readable

Known Limitations

Our interactive map is a complex component that may not be fully accessible to all assistive technologies. Specifically:

The Leaflet-based map is a visual, pointer-driven interface. Keyboard-only and screen reader access to individual map markers is limited.
Some comfort score color coding on the map may be difficult to distinguish for users with color vision deficiencies without the accompanying text labels.

We are actively working to improve these areas. The destination detail pages (accessible via search or direct URL) present the same weather data in a fully accessible text format.

Technical Approach

CentralOregonWeather is built with React and Next.js. We use standard HTML elements, ARIA attributes where appropriate, and follow accessible design patterns for navigation, forms, and interactive controls. The site does not use auto-playing media or timed content that cannot be paused.
