    Bend, Oregon snow FAQ

Common questions about snowfall in Bend and Central Oregon

How much snow does Bend get in a typical winter?

Most Bend neighborhoods get about 14 to 28 inches of snow from October through April. West Bend is usually near the high end of that range, while east and southeast Bend are usually near the low end.

Where does it snow the most in Bend?

West Bend usually gets the most snow. Areas near Shevlin Park, Century Drive, and the Cascade foothills tend to be snowier than downtown, east Bend, and southeast Bend.

When does Bend usually get snow?

Most of Bend’s snow falls from December through February. Snow can also fall as early as October or as late as April, but early- and late-season snow usually melts faster.

Why does Mt. Bachelor get more snow than Bend?

Mt. Bachelor’s base is about 6,300 feet above sea level—roughly 2,700 feet higher than central Bend. The higher elevation is colder and receives more moisture from winter storms, so much more precipitation falls as snow before the air reaches the drier high desert around Bend.

What is the difference between snow hours and snowy days?

Snow hours count the total time snow was falling. Snowy days count how many days had at least one hour of snow. Use snowfall to compare inches and the other two views to compare how often it snows.

Does this map show the current snow forecast?

No. It shows the usual snow patterns across Bend and Central Oregon. Check the current forecast to see whether snow is expected today or later this week.
